How to enable .Net Framework 3.5 Online/Offline in Windows 8

Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5 is an important feature in Windows 8. It ensures that programs or softwares build for Windows platform performs stable.

 Did you know that the program files of .Net Framework is copied while installation of Windows 8???. However, this feature is still needed to be enabled manually.

This feature in Windows 8 can be enabled by two methods:
1. Online Method:

In this method, first you have to open "Uninstall or change a Program".
Now on left side menu, click on Turn Windows Features On or Off. Now check on empty box on .Net Framework 3.5 and click on OK.

Now click on Download files from Windows update. After this, files of around 25-40 Mb will be downloaded and this feature will be enabled.

2. Offline Method:

In this method, a bootable disc/USB flash drive of Windows 8 is required. After inserting the bootable Disc/USB flash drive to computer, follow these steps:

  • Open Command Prompt as administrator. for this open Run program and type cmd.exe 
  • Now enter this command as it is:

 Dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /Source:I:\Sources\sxs

where I: is source of my Windows OS installation disc. Change it according to your Windows installation disc drive.

  • You can see a line showing enabling feature/Installing with percentage completed.
After the process is completed, close cmd. Voila your .Net Framework 3.5 is now enabled offline in Windows 8.
