A Hard Disk Drive of your computer has generally 2 partitions(one for OS and one for your data) or 3 as per your requirements.
But there are people who have only one lonely big partition for OS as well as data storage. These people don't have the idea of risks involved in having primary OS drive as the Data storage disk.
Generally, if there develops any problem in your program files or your windows become unstable, the risk of losing your important data increases. That is why there is a need of having a partition other than OS disk drive. This can be acheived by methods stated below:
1. Either at the time of Windows Installation, one can create as many partitions as they need.
2. Or by Using softwares like Norton Partition Magic etc., which provides powerful way to create partition in HDD.
However, there is another way of creating a partition in Windows 7. This does not require use or purchase of any tool or software, and it can be done after Windows Installation as well.
1. Open Start menu from Start Button in Windows 7.
2. Type "computer" in this menu.
3. Open Computer Management as Administrator from this menu.
4. On left hand side is a list of process managers. Select Disk Management from Storage.
5. This will display all your partitions created inside the Computer.
6. Now you can delete a volume (Deleting Partitions) or Shrink a Volume ( Creating a Partition) from the Disk Sectors.
Now you have successfully created partition in Windows without the need of any tool or software.
